Your Community


You will be a member of the Aaqua Engineering team, working closely with the Chief Engineer, the other leaders and the different engineering teams. You will be building out and leading our 'Interactive' engineering tribe with the mission to deliver all interactive experiences of the platform, including chat and (live) video streaming.

Your Purpose


Just like everybody else in the company, your purpose is to deliver a great platform for our members. As an engineering leader, you do that by passionately making the teams and individuals successful by mentoring them, supporting them in their continuous learning journey, and taking away impediments. Your passion and enthusiasm about building Agile organisations will be a beacon for the entire team. Your main purpose is to help the teams to continuously deliver high-quality software and instil a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Your Focus


Your contribution will include:

  • Build out the different engineering squads in the 'Interactive' tribe.
  • Own the tribe's mission and deliver on the goals.
  • Work together with the product management team to build out the tribe mission and continuously improve the Aaqua platform.
  • Mentoring and supporting the engineers in their day-to-day work by providing them with the necessary tools, tips & tricks, training, ... to improve every day.
  • Build an open culture where all feelings, good and bad, are easily expressed, actively listened to, appreciated and acted upon where necessary. 
  • Build a strong Agile and inclusive culture where, continuous improvement, continuous learning are central.
  • Build a trustful and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on healing and problem solving.
  • Live and breath the company culture by leading by example.
  • Continuously look for ways to align your team with the broader organisation.
  • Hire the best engineers in the market and build motivated and empowered teams of highly skilled engineers where innovation thrives.
  • Gather 360 feedback on your direct reports to be able to provide them with appropriate insights, support and advice.
  • Work together with our People team and the other engineering leaders to solve issues and to continuously improve our processes and culture.
  • Navigate the organisation (and support the teams to do so) to remove impediments and achieve the mission of the tribe and Aaqua as a whole.
  • Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.
  • Be part of a high-tech team with a strong focus on quality, scalability and reliability.

Your Knowledge


  • You have a strong engineering background with experience in web and mobile.
  • You have 7+ years of leading engineering teams.
  • You played a key role in building and scaling engineering teams.
  • You have experience with interactive technologies, (live) video streaming, ...
  • You have a proven history in servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continuous improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
  • You understand that every company is different and can put things in perspective for the greater good.
  • You are an empathic leader and understand how to make others feel appreciated.
  • You know how to constantly keep an eye on the greater good and align the teams to that.
  • You understand and believe in phrases like "You joined not to be cool, but make others cool" (Satya Nadella) and "leaders eat last" (Simon Sinek).
  • You have excellent communication, listening and mentoring skills.
